No. 1 Bulldogs roll to 24-7 win at Reedley
REEDLEY – No. 1 state-ranked College of San Mateo hit the road for the first time this season and came away with a 24-7 victory at Reedley College on Saturday.
The defending state champion Bulldogs are 2-0 after the solid, well-balanced win. CSM totaled 418 yards of offense, getting 221 yards on the ground while passing for 197. The defense was just as good, limiting Reedley to just 138 yards.
The Bulldogs put up points in each quarter. After a solid debut last week, quarterback Johnny Koett put together another quality start under center. He snuck in for a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter to wrap up a 13-play, 64-yard drive and connected with Jaelin Green for a big 53-yard TD reception in the second quarter to give CSM a 14-0 lead.
Reedley (0-2) scored its lone points just moments before halftime when the Tigers blocked a CSM punt deep in its territory and ran it back for a 10-yard touchdown.
The CSM defense dominated the rest of the way while Dieter Kelly knocked in a 32-yard field goal in the third and Jamaal Wiley broke free for a 20-yard TD run in the fourth to cap the victory.
Koett completed 14 of 25 passes for 177 yards with a touchdown and interception.
The Bulldogs return home next Saturday (Sep. 13) to host Modesto Junior College at 1 p.m. in a top-ranked showdown. Modesto, ranked No. 4 in last week's state poll, is 2-0 after a 27-20 win over No. 15 American River on Saturday.
