No. 1 Bulldogs rally in second half to defeat No. 3 Modesto, 41-21
SAN MATEO – The College of San Mateo home winning streak is now at 25 games thank to an impressive second half that saw the No. 1 state-ranked Bulldogs roll to a 41-21 non-league win over visiting No. 3-ranked Modesto Junior College on Saturday afternoon at College Heights Stadium.
CSM and Modesto were tied 21-21 at halftime before the Bulldogs came back out of the break with a renewed focus. San Mateo went on to outscore the Pirates 20-0 over the final two quarters to pull out the win.
San Mateo quarterback Johnny Koett had his finest start of the season, completing 16 of 25 passes for 286 yards and 4 touchdowns. He tossed TD passes to Jaelin Green, Jeramiah Lewis, Jack Elgaaen, and Jeremiah Hill.
Corey Le'aupepe added a 1-yard touchdown run and kicker Dieter Kelly booted field goals from 37 and 36 yards to account for the Bulldogs scoring.
Today's contest was a repeat of last year's Northern California Championship final that also saw San Mateo come out on top in a much closer 27-22 game.
CSM has now won 13 straight games dating back to last season. The Bulldogs will take that winning streak to American River College next Saturday (Sep .20) for a 1 p.m. non-league game.
