Bulldogs head to Round 2 with 63-59 playoff win at Contra Costa
SAN PABLO – College of San Mateo is advancing after the No. 19-seeded Bulldogs opened the Northern California Regional Playoffs with a 63-59 upset victory at No. 14 Contra Costa College on Wednesday night.
Jeremy Pierro scored 20 points to lead CSM while Wilson Tran added 16 points. The win improved San Mateo to 18-11 overall.
The Bulldogs will now travel to No. 3-seeded West Valley College for a second-round NorCal Playoffs game on Saturday (Feb. 28) at 7 p.m. The Coast Conference foes met once this season with the Vikings taking the 70-36 win at the San Joaquin Delta College tournament.
West Valley brings a 22-6 overall record into Saturday's game. The Vikings finished second in the Coast Conference South Division at 10-2.
Two more wins are needed by the Bulldogs to advance to the 3C2A State Championships on March 13-15 at College of the Sequoias in Visalia.
