STOCKTON – The 2025 College of San Mateo men's water polo season got off to a tremendous start as the Bulldogs won three out of four games over the weekend at the Ben Antilla Invitational. The two-day event was hosted by San Joaquin Delta College.
CSM opened the tournament and season with a narrow 9-7 victory over Merced College on Friday. That was followed by an 18-8 victory over Santa Rosa Junior College. San Mateo kept the momentum going on Saturday morning by beating host Delta 14-7. The Bulldogs closed the event with a 21-8 loss to a tough Modesto Junior College squad.
With the three victories, CSM head coach Andrew Silva's team has already surpassed last year's win total. The Bulldogs went 2-12 in just their second season back after the program was reinstated.
Freshman Sean Coffin led the CSM offense as he totaled 12 goals over the four games, including a team-best 6 goals in the win over Santa Rosa. Sophomore Roman Brush scored 10 goals and sophomore David Silvestre had 8 goals.
Freshman goalie Colin Travis also played well in helping lead the Bulldogs to the excellent opening-weekend.
CSM will look to continue its excellent start to the season on Wednesday (Sep. 17) at 3 p.m. when the Bulldogs open Coast Conference play at Cabrillo College.
