No. 1 CSM, No. 2 West Valley clash in battle of 56-game total win streak Tuesday
It will be a clash of major win streaks totaling 56 Games on Tuesday, March 10.
Reigning 3C2A state and mythical national community college softball champion College of San Mateo pits its 37 Game 12-month long winning streak at West Valley College's 19-game 2025 skein in Saratoga in a Coast Conference first place showdown at 3 p.m.
Both teams opened Coast play Thursday with easy victories – CSM, 27-3, at Chabot, and West Valley, 10-0, at Monterey Peninsula -- and are the only remaining 2026 unbeatens among the 3C2A's 72 teams: CSM (21 games) and West Valley (19).
--CSM is ranked No. 1 and West Valley No. 2 in the latest state coaches' poll (March 2).
Both teams registered impressive wins over state ranked teams last week. San Mateo defeated state No. 16 Sierra 12-0 (5 innings) in the week's state "featured" contest. West Valley took a doubleheader from No. 11 College of the Sequoias, 6-4, and 9-1 (5 innings).
San Mateo and West Valley shared the 2025 Coast Conference championship with 12-2 records. The Bulldogs started the 2025 season 17-0.
Slugging CSM blasted five home runs in last week's win over Sierra and leads the state by a huge margin with 42 this season. Next on the HR list is Taft with 27 – a team the Lady Bulldogs opened the season with 6-2 and 12-3 victories.
Nia Mapa leads Northern California with 11 homers (No. 2 in state) and Katie Johnson ranks No. 2 in the north with seven. Mapa also leads the north with 20 RBIs and in slugging percentage (1,204).
The Bulldogs are batting .389 as a team (No. 2 in the north behind Taft, .391) and lead in pitching ERA at 1.51 (No. 2 in the state behind Mt. San Antonio, 1.25).
QUIGLEY-BORG APPROACHES ANOTHER MILESTONE VICTORY
CSM head coach Nicole Quigley-Borg is two wins away from her 700th career win with the college. Victories over West Valley on Tuesday and Hartnell College on Thursday would secure the milestone.
