Bulldogs cruise to 76-63 win over Merritt
SAN MATEO – Tatiana Wilson and Lynn Alapati both scored 16 points each to lead the College of San Mateo College women's basketball team in a 76-63 non-conference win over visiting Merritt College on Saturday.
San Mateo led 22-18 after the first quarter, but Merritt answered with a 24-point second period to tie the game at 42-42 heading into halftime.
The Bulldogs took control after the break, holding Merritt to just seven points in the third quarter while scoring 17 of their own to build a double-digit cushion. CSM maintained that momentum in the fourth, matching its third-quarter output with 17 more points to seal the 13-point victory.
Wilson was efficient, shooting 6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range, while adding four assists and three steals. Alapati connected on six field goals, including a pair of three-pointers. She added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Crystal Guerra Herrera contributed nine points and 11 rebounds while Marie Palu added eight points and six boards. Off the bench, Diamond Altamirano chipped in with eight points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
The win improved CSM to 5-10 overall. The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 7) when they host San Jose City College in a 5 p.m. Coast Conference interdivision game.
