Dorn wins women's 1,500 at Mt. SAC; Sebisanovic takes men's high jump
Ericka Dorn improved her state 1,500 meter women's track ranking with a 4 minute, 48.30 seconds victory at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays this month, the top community college time by a Northern California community college runner this season. The College of San Mateo sophomore (from Westmoor High) was followed closely by teammate Lina Cruz Parada (freshman from Aragon), who finished third in 5:02.21.
Parada was fourth in the 5,000 meters in a personal best 18:55.68, ahead of all other NorCal CC runners.
Dorn also won the 800 meters in 2:17.74. She leads NorCal athletes with her CSM records at 800 (2:14.90) and 5,000 (17:46.68) meters this season.
Those were among a parade of top CSM performances at the site of this year's 3C2A state championships, May 15-16, in Walnut. San Mateo hosted the 2025 championships. This was also a tune-up for the April 24-25 Coast Conference championships.
In men's field events, CSM's Luka Sebisanovic (out of San Mateo High) won the high jump at 6 feet, 4 3/4 inches, just off his best of 6-6 3/4, which leads the Coast. He had been "perfect" throughout the competition (to turn back his opponents on misses) until the bar was raised to his season best height – which no one cleared.
Cal Adasiewicz (soph from Woodside High) equaled his pole vault season best of 13-9 1/4, placing third overall for the Bulldogs.
Nasir Shabazz (San Mateo High) put the shot 51-3 1/2 to place third and Evan Usher (Woodside) was fourth at 47-11 3/4 -- the No. 1 and 3 marks in the Coast Conference this season. Usher was seventh in the discus throw (145-11) and Shabazz was 13th with a PB 137-2.
Sean Milburn (St. Ignatius Prep) reached a triple jump PB of 41-11 1/2 to move up to ninth on the Coast season list.
On the track, Colin Williams clocked a personal best 4:10.34 in the 1,500 meters to move into the No. 4 position on the Coast season list.
Carmel Mendes-Grassia (Woodside) had a 58.41 PB in the 400 hurdles, now ranking No. 4 in the Coast. He also ran the 110 hurdles in 15.91, where he already ranks No. 2 in the Coast at 15.69.
In women's field events, CSM freshman Kona Jane Dascoscos put the shot 36-0 to place sixth to pace NorCal athletes and threw the discus 91-1, both personal bests.
